Announcements and Important Events
Spring Athletes and Parents,
On Thursday, March 12th Governor Evers declared a Public Health Emergency for the State of Wisconsin and called upon the people of Wisconsin to work aggressively to slow the spread of COVID-19. We take this responsibility seriously, as we consider the impact of our decisions on students and their learning, our families and staff and their professional and personal responsibilities, and all of our connections with one another throughout the Port Washington-Saukville Community. As we learn from others’ experiences with COVID-19 both across the country and around the world, we want to answer one question with confidence; ‘Are we doing all that we can to keep our students, staff members, and community safe?’
Today the Port Washington-Saukville School District and many other Northshore schools have announced that they will be closing their schools for the next 4 weeks. For our athletic programs and all school activities, this means that all activities that include, games, events, practices, open gyms, meetings or any forms of assembling as a team are prohibited whether they take place on school district property or not. Our coaches are allowed and encouraged to continue communication with their athletes by using the athletics website, email, text messaging and other forms of social media. I highly recommend that you continue to visit our athletics website to keep yourself informed. At this present time, the WIAA has not placed any restrictions on the Spring Sport Season and are allowing school districts to make their own local decisions. I’m certain that new developments will be announced soon but in the meantime, our projected date of return to play will be on Tuesday, April 14th. We will keep you posted on new developments from the WIAA and if there are any plans to extend our school closure.
Athletes, these are unprecedented times and my heart goes out to all of you that are missing out on your athletic opportunity. We pray that the spread of this virus slows and the opportunity to resume our activities will exist again following our 4 weeks of isolation from school. In the meantime, please stay positive and keep yourselves safe by avoiding public events and large crowds. Together we will work through this.
