NORTH SHORE CONFERENCE STATEMENT May 7, 2020
The North Shore Conference prides itself on being one of Wisconsin’s premiere high school conferences. All member schools support education-based athletics and work collaboratively to provide life-time memories for all who participate and all who support the student-athletes.
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused great disruption to everyday life. High school athletics has been impacted in ways never experienced before. The WIAA Board of Control cancelled the end of the WIAA 2019-20 winter sports tournament series and the WIAA 2020 regular and tournament seasons for all WIAA spring sports.
These cancellations were in support of Governor Tony Evers’ ongoing efforts to prevent, suppress and control the spread of the COVID-19 disease. On April 16, the state’s Safer-at-Home order was extended with all public and private K-12 schools closed until June 30, 2020 . This action prohibits all school extracurricular and athletic activities through June 30.
On April 22, 2020, as a result of the loss of the spring sport season, the WIAA Board of Control voted to extend the unrestricted summertime coaching contact opportunities for spring sports only. This action permits spring sports school teams to assemble and conduct practices and competitions for up to 30 days, provided restrictions on assembling in groups are removed. These contact days would begin on July 1 and would need to be completed before the start of an athlete’s fall sports season.
Member schools will release additional information about how this opportunity may be utilized as more information is released state-wide in the next few weeks. The North Shore Conference does not plan to hold or sanction conference competitions or championships during this 30-day contact window.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support of the athletes, programs and schools.
We are navigating together through these challenging times. Support your student-athletes and celebrate everything your seniors have accomplished in their high school careers.
Stay safe and healthy
