This week Brenna set a personal best time of 16:35 at the Matt Hadler Cross Country Invitational. As a junior, Brenna embraces her leadership role on the team. Brenna runs year round and enjoys competing in road races during the off-season. Her favorite parts of Cross Country are training with her teammates and making friends in the running community across the state of Wisconsin. She is an ambassador for the sport and a role model for the younger athletes on the team.
Congratulations Brenna on being selected this week’s Character Counts Female Athlete of Week
This is Tyler’s 3rd year on Varsity Soccer. He is an extremely hardworking and supportive teammate who has been named captain. He loves the game of soccer and shows that energy every day in practice and games. As a sophomore Tyler was named honorable mention all-conference. Outside of the school team Tyler earned his Eagle Scout rank this summer. His Eagle project was to start a TOPSoccer program in Ozaukee County. TOPSoccer is a program that gives physically and mentally challenged kids an opportunity to participate in skills drills and games related to soccer. He set this program in place and set it up to be continued by the North Shore United soccer club, where he plays in the offseason. Tyler is a great example of the ideals of a student athlete and his character is a great representation of what Port Washington HS develops.
Congratulations Tyler on being selected this week’s Character Counts Male Athlete of Week.
Masuma Zulfaker is a senior and member of the Varsity girl's Tennis team. She was also voted as one of this season's captains by her teammates, probably because she comes to every practice and game with a smile on her face and a positive attitude. She is always ready to step up and help out when needed. When asked why she likes tennis, Masuma said it's a fun sport to play because you have to use speed and skill and she also thinks her teammates are great. She's looking forward to her senior year and getting ready for the real world. Her goal is to attend UW Madison and pursue something in the medical field.
Congratulations Masuma on being selected this week’s Character Counts Female Athlete of Week
Sam is the starting free safety on the Pirates Varsity Defensive Football Team this season. He has played consistent and tough all season long. This last week against Homestead, Sam had 6 solo tackles and 5 assisted tackles, to lead our defense against a tough Highlander offense.
Sam is a strong leader, not only on football team but in the classroom as well. Sam is on the honor roll and volunteers his time with many fundraising and charitable events. He is a true role model on the field and in our community.
Sam is also a member of the pirate varsity baseball team.
Congratulations Sam on being selected this week’s Character Counts Male Athlete of Week
