2020 Tryout Schedule

Since the WIAA has set a start date for our season as September 7th, our tryouts will be on September 7th & September 8th from 5:15-8:15pm at the High School Gym.  You must be present at both dates in order to have an opportunity to be on one of our 3 rosters (Varsity, JV, & JV2).  The coaching staff will be looking to keep anywhere from 12-13 players per roster.

Coaches from all levels will evaluate the athletes based upon three key areas.

Attitude and Commitment Leadership, hustle, positive interaction with your teammates and coaches at all times, ability to accept feedback and apply it to the court effectively are also viewed equally among the three traits. Remember playing volleyball for the Pirates is a privilege.

Overall Skills Ball control, serving, passing, attacking, setting, blocking, court knowledge, aggressiveness and understanding of the game by level & experience (this is your ability to understand drills/games, position, and make the best plays offensively and defensively.)

Athleticism Volleyball specific athleticism, lateral quickness, speed, jumping ability, aerobic conditioning, strength, agility, and ability to change directions quickly and while still making volleyball specific plays.

High school volleyball is extremely competitive, requires exceptional eye hand coordination, ability to work as one with others like no other sport. No one skill is viewed higher than others, all skills are viewed equal to make up a complete volleyball player. The Port Washington Volleyball Program needs all levels JV2, JV, and varsity to function at a consistent high level. Teams are based on the coaches discretion of what they believe will help develop players to build a successful program and individual teams.

Each athlete that tries out for a team will be given notification of her status upon the completion of the tryout sessions. The coaches will talk face to face with the athletes and let them know about their status on one of our rosters. Those who are not offered a roster spot are more than welcome to come back and try out for the team the following season. We will carry approximately 12-13 players for each team.

It is important that each player who is selected for a team fully understands the commitment they are making to the program and that you all understand the effort it takes to make the season successful.

***A cloth facemask will be required upon entering the gym and while participating until further notice.  It is suggested to bring multiple masks in case you need to change them during the tryout or practice.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at tryouts on September 7th.

Resumption of Open Gyms/Preseason Updates

We will be resuming open gyms on Monday August 17th.  I have updated the summer schedule with the dates and times of the open gyms.  Click here to view the updated Summer Schedule.

Please note that per the WI State of Emergency, a cloth facemask is required while in a public building and will need to be worn while playing as well.  I would suggest bringing a couple of masks to change if need be.  Also, please continue to park down by the Community Pool and enter the gym by walking up the hill and using the south doors of the gym.

Details on a preseason meeting will be coming shortly.

If you have not turned in all of the required paperwork in order to tryout, please do so.  To access the packet of paperwork needed click here.  The paperwork must be turned into the high school office prior to the start of the 1st practice.  NO EXCEPTIONS!

Stay Safe,

Coach Paul Jungbauer
