Score
PIRATES: 56
KOHLER: 0

Meet Highlights: Our first meet of the season was against Kohler, Sheboygan Lutheran, Sheboygan Falls.  As coaches, we have been so focused on growing the team and working on fundamentals that putting together a winning lineup wasn’t on our radar for this season.  We knew winning would be in our future but certainly didn’t expect it so soon.  This was the first win for Port girls in over 5 years.  Our team is a lot bigger than last year but most of our girls are new, and Kohler has a few stand-outs so we didn’t know how we would stack up against them this year.  As we came to the last few events of the meet and we continued to outscore Kohler, we knew we had pulled off the win and the girls were ecstatic.  Sophomore Kamryn Lapacek was the top Varsity scorer (10 points) followed by Freshman Josie Tetzlaff (9 points), Freshman Abbey Lotz (8 points), and Sophomore Caroline Hadacek (8 points).  The Swimmer of the Meet was awarded to Sophomore Maria Wichman for her outstanding efforts in the 50 and 100 Free.

Individual Highlights: The meet began with an exciting Varsity 200 Medley race with our teams taking the top two spots.  The first place team was Freshman Josie Tetzlaff, Sophomore Caroline Hadacek, Junior Sydney Hannert and Sophomore Kamryn Lapacek with a time of 2:17.97.  The second place team was Freshman Emma Huber, Freshman Audyn Setzer, Junior Erin Grisar and Junior Sarah Howell with a time of 2:20.73.  The Port girls also dominated the Varsity 200 Free scoring 12 of the 16 points thanks to great performances by Lapacek (1st place 2:20.20), Hadacek (2nd place 2:35.43) and Howell (4th place 2:41.69).  For JV 200 Free, Sophomore Taylor Peiffer won with a time of 2:38.02 followed by Freshman Ashley Bensen.  In the Varsity 200 IM, the girls fought hard with Freshman Abbey Lotz finishing 2nd with a time of 2:41.56 followed by her teammate in 3rd Josie Tetzlaff (2:44.09). For the 50 Free we had a record number of girls competing in two JV heats: Sophomore Avery Phillips (JV 1st place, 31.73), Junior Kelly Ball (JV 2nd place, 32.49), Junior Julia Burke (JV 3rd place, 35.64), Sophomore Shannon McConahy (34.28), Sophomore Maria Wichman (36.14), Junior Reese Crandall (36.30), Freshman Maddie Boyle (38.71), Freshman Serena Baumann (40.89), Senior Ellie Meyer (41.12).  Nice job, girls!  For the Varsity 50 Free we had a Freshman duo of Eva Perez (3rd place, 30.22) and Audyn Setzer (4th place, 31.03) followed by teammate Howell (5th place, 32.02). We didn’t take the top spot in Varsity 100 Fly but we had a lot of depth in this event with Lotz (2nd place, 1:10.87), Hannert (3rd place, 1:19.23), and Grisar (4th place, 1:22.25).  We also had depth in the Varsity 100 Free with Lapacek taking 2nd (1:00.76), Huber taking 3rd (1:08.56), and Ball taking 5th (1:13.61).  In the JV 100 Free the girls did very well: Perez (JV 1st place, 1:09.81), Freshman Maddi Klein (JV 2nd place, 1:14.86), Sophomore Nolari Hingiss (JV 3rd place, 1:20.09), Philips (1:14.84), Wichman (1:21.98), Crandall (1:23.49).  In the JV 500 Free, Junior Olivia Heinecke came in 1st with a time of 7:43.39.  The Varsity 500 Free was a tough event but the girls pulled through with Hannert 3rd place (7:03.16), Sophomore Leah Sheriff 4th place (7:14.14), and Grisar 5th (7:23.94).  The Varsity 200 Free Relay team of Lapacek, Hadacek, Tetzlaff and Lotz finished 2nd (1:56.00) and the team of Setzer, Perez, Ball and Peiffer finished 3rd (2:04.46).  Port swept both the JV and Varsity 100 Back.  Hingiss led the way for JV (1st place 1:30.13) followed by Klein (2nd place 1:32.25) and Bensen (3rd place 1:39.65).  Tetzlaff led the way for Varsity (1st place, 1:18.81), Peiffer (2nd place, 1:19.40), and Huber (3rd place, 1:26.36).  Port was also strong in the 100 Breaststroke.  Setzer came in 1st for JV with 1:34.13 and Sheriff 2nd with 1:36.95.  For Varsity 100 Breaststroke, Hadacek swam a 1:34.16 (2nd place), Heinecke 1:41.61 (3rd place), Burke 1:42.12 (4th place).  Port had a strong finish to the meet with a 2nd place 400 Free Relay with Lotz, Sheriff, Grisar, and Hannert (4:40.90) and 3rd place Huber, Heinecke, Peiffer, and Ball (5:02.23).  A great start to the season for all our girls!
