Pirates race their way to a second place finish at the West Allis Central Bulldog Invitational.
Sixteen teams approached the starting line on a crisp September afternoon preparing to do battle across 5000 meters of rugged terrain at McCarty Park in West Allis. When the race concluded, two teams stood upon the podium in the Varsity Girls race. The team from Germantown finished first with 68 points closely followed the Port Washington Pirates who finished with 76. Third place was New Berlin Eisenhower with 87, fourth place Oak Creek with 135 and Union Grove rounded out the top five with 159 points. Other teams that had five runners complete the course were - Greendale with 167, Waukesha North 177, Kenosha Bradford 191, New Berlin West 193, Martin Luther 196 and Kettle Moraine Lutheran with 254 points.
All five scoring runners for the Pirates were medalists. Leading the way was junior Bethany Stacey who finished 3rd overall with a time of 19:44. Her time makes her the second fastest Pirate in school history. She was followed by junior Mira Stimac (9th, 20:52) and freshman Braeya Thomas (10th, 20:53). Freshman, Abbey Lotz was the four runner finishing 25th with a time 21:36 and sophomore Clare Woods rounded out the scoring with a personal best time of 21:56 (29th).
There was a runaway victory in the JV race for Pirate freshman Emma Kaza-James as she outlasted 95 other runners to take home the victory. Emma completed the course with a time 22:35, sixteen seconds ahead of the nearest competitor. Also earning medals for the Pirates in the JV race were juniors Kayla Hartmann (24:02), Lily Rogowoski (24:30) and Grace Schumacher (25:11).
